DLP-based dichoptic vision test system.

چکیده
It can be useful to present a different image to each of the two eyes while they cooperatively view the world. Such dichoptic presentation can occur in investigations of stereoscopic and binocular vision (e.g., strabismus, amblyopia) and vision rehabilitation in clinical and research settings. Various techniques have been used to construct dichoptic displays. The most common and most flexible modern technique uses liquid-crystal (LC) shutters. When used in combination with cathode ray tube (CRT) displays, there is often leakage of light from the image intended for one eye into the view of the other eye. Such interocular crosstalk is 14% even in our state of the art CRT-based dichoptic system. While such crosstalk may have minimal impact on stereo movie or video game experiences, it can defeat clinical and research investigations. We use micromirror digital light processing (DLP) technology to create a novel dichoptic visual display system with substantially lower interocular crosstalk (0.3%; remaining crosstalk comes from the LC shutters). The DLP system normally uses a color wheel to display color images. Our approach is to disable the color wheel, synchronize the display directly to the computer's sync signal, allocate each of the three (former) color presentations to one or both eyes, and open and close the LC shutters in synchrony with those color events.

Dichoptic colour-saturation masking is unmasked by binocular luminance contrast
We demonstrate a new type of interaction between suprathreshold colour (chromatic) and luminance contrast in the context of binocular, specifically dichoptic vision. A highly saturated isoluminant violet 'mask' disk in one eye greatly elevates detection thresholds for an isoluminant violet 'test' disk in the other eye, an example of dichoptic colour-saturation masking. However when binocular lu...
متن کاملDichoptic training improves contrast sensitivity in adults with amblyopia
Dichoptic training is designed to promote binocular vision in patients with amblyopia. Initial studies have found that the training effects transfer to both binocular (stereopsis) and monocular (recognition acuity) visual functions. The aim of this study was to assess whether dichoptic training effects also transfer to contrast sensitivity (CS) in adults with amblyopia. We analyzed CS data from...
متن کاملReversed tilt effect for dichoptic stimulation in vertical meridian
The orientation of a test line appears shifted away from that of contextual contours. This repulsion in the orientation domain manifests itself in, for example, the tilt aftereffect, the simultaneous orientation contrast, and the Zöllner illusion. Attractive rather than repulsive interaction has been reported for collinear inducing configurations at small inducing angles. Here it is shown that ...
متن کاملBinocular contrast vision at and above threshold.
A fundamental problem for any visual system with binocular overlap is the combination of information from the two eyes. Electrophysiology shows that binocular integration of luminance contrast occurs early in visual cortex, but a specific systems architecture has not been established for human vision. Here, we address this by performing binocular summation and monocular, binocular, and dichopti...
متن کاملThe dynamics of cross-orientation masking at monocular and interocular sites
We investigated the temporal properties of monocular and dichoptic cross-orientation masking (XOM) mediating suppressive or facilitatory cross-channel interactions between the neural detectors for the test and orthogonal mask stimuli. We measured the evolution of masking as a function of the duration of the test and mask stimuli to determine its time constant, and determined its dependence on s...
